Birthday Season

The last couple months have seen several birthday party invitations a week coming home from school for the kids.  We lead a busy life, so have to say no to most, but Lucy did get to attend her first school-friend party a few weeks ago!  She was the youngest attendee (of about 25) so was a little shy.  We still had a good time though; playing in the bounce house, coloring, eating party food, decorating a flowerpot.

The party had been going for two hours and there was no sign of presents or cake and Lucy was fading fast.  We said our goodbyes and she crashed on the couch as soon as we got home.

  1. I love the way she is so intent on everything – you can tell by the expression on her face that she definitely wants to do this birthday thing right. Such a little lady.

  2. Even with the fading and the birthday party no being what Lucy thought it should be. It is a sign of her becoming more and more her own person.. I remember those days with our girl, ( who will be 13 in Aug). People mean well, just the attention span of those little ones don’t go that long. you can tell that Lucy wants to be a part of what’s going on though and do it like it should be done. About all those birthday parties. There seem to be just oodles of them till the kids are in 3rd 4th grade, then they fade out to the real friends, and there aren’t so many. The number of parties the kids are invited to seems to have a direct relation to if the parents are friends of each other. Our daughter was invited to a lot because we were in the same age bracket as a lot of the parents of the kids she goes to school with. Our poor son is invited to hardly any and he has yet to have any one show up to his ( he will be 6 in Oct) I think in large part because we are so much older then the parents of the kids he will be going to school with. I know all those school friends brithday parties can be hard to fit in, but they are such a important part of the school years. I’m glad Lucy was able to go.
