We went to the gift shop and bought our tour tickets (making sure to tell the cashier how many bricks are in the lighthouse for a discount), and headed over to the thing itself.
We each got to climb up into the light one at a time. It’s a super-rare first-order Fresnel lens, built in Paris in 1890.
The docent gave us lots of good facts, and the kids asked a few good questions. We were a bit sad to leave.
“Man, I just love learning about history, don’t you?”
