#87: Bike the Lights at PIR

This is part of our 100 Things in 2014 challenge. Here’s the full list.

Every year the Portland International Raceway dresses up the track with lights, and invites ordinary folks in ordinary cars to take a spin. One day out of every season is reserved for bikes only. We only stopped for this one photo, because we didn’t want to hold up traffic:

Will and Lucy were taken completely off-guard, since this was a school night. We almost never go out on school nights. Then they spotted the bikes on the rack behind the car, and kind of went nuts.

We sang the 12 Days of Christmas at the top of our lungs while riding through electric-lightbulb recreations of all the gifts. The kids did a double-take when we told them this was the same track we had run in October. It took a lot less time with bikes. And a good thing, too, because it was pretty cold.
