There is a boat called The Bowpicker in Astoria, where it is said you can get the best fish and chips this side of the UK. We decided to add an hour to our drive to our cabin this year to go visit it.

And it was worth it. It was 36° and raining when we stopped, and this place has no indoor… anything, really. So I stood in line for 5 minutes (which we found out later to be an uncharacteristically short amount of time) and got 5 glorious pieces of beer-battered albacore tuna which we devoured sitting in our parked car.

We’re glad we made the detour. Foodwise this ranks with our trip to Scotland, and charmwise it’s up there too. Highly recommended.
