#56: Unusual Lodging

As part of our road trip to California this summer, we rented a teeny tiny cabin in someone’s backyard! It was adorable and charming and quiet and peaceful, and perfect for what we needed that week.

This is part of our 100 Things in 2018 challenge. Make sure to click on the photos!

The house was a 50-yard walk from the parking area, through the host’s yard. Half of the kitchen was outside on the deck. To access the bathroom we had to go outside and downstairs. The bed was up a ladder. The wi-fi was spotty and slow. There was a three-legged cat that we had to feed. And yet, we enjoyed it. This was just what we needed, some isolation and quiet and rest, and this place had all of those things in abundance. All of those things that on paper should have been drawbacks, just added to the charm. And the view was fantastic – we were right on the edge of the Redwood forest, and there’s something soothing about sleeping among giants.
