So this one has a bit of an ulterior motive. We found ourselves watching a lot of TV shows, partly because they fit into that slot between kids-are-in-bed and lights-out-for-grownups, but also partly because of inertia. We wanted to be choosing movies more often, because both of us like them more than TV shows. We also wanted to make sure we watched some documentaries. So we set some quotas:

• Documentaries: 5
• AFI Top-100 films: 20
• Family movies: 12
• Whatever else we want: 15

Here’s what we watched. We blew away our goal by quite a bit, and the only quota we had any trouble at all with was documentaries. We’re pretty happy with the results, though; we’ve taken in a lot of good stories, and enjoyed a lot of great films this year.
